Freaking Awesome

I just got back from my OB appointment - and it was great. I was pretty nervous at first, I have to admit. I was fine all of the way until I was sitting in the room. Then I started feeling nervous. Usually Aaron has been with me - this is the first doc appointment in maybe a YEAR that he hasn't been there with me! The doc came in, and was very sweet - and talked to me quickly - and said we were going to try and get a heartbeat with the doppler. But - not to fear - if we couldn't hear with the doppler she would take me right over to u/s.

So I held my breath. And she quickly had me listen to my heartbeat. And then shifted a bit, and we heard the baby. I cried a little - and then laughed, which had the doppler make a horrible noise - and then the doc laughed.

Good times.

I've actually LOST a pound - which is shocking to me. We talked quickly about my weight concerns, and she made me feel much better. She even admitted to gaining 60 pounds with her first pregnancy. Oh - and I'm off the progesterone as of today! Hurrah!!!!!!

I scheduled my next appointment for next month, and then my big u/s at 18 weeks. That is on July 7th. I can't believe it is so soon! Of course, we aren't finding out the sex - but it'll be really neat to see the baby looking like a real baby. Only 6 weeks. Seems like time is flying now.

I still get a little weepy when I hear that heartbeat.

And good for you for not finding out the sex. While the curiosity is killing me, it'll be fun to have that ultimate surprise.

Yay for hearing the heartbeat! My doppler last week was so scratchy, but you could definitely make it out =) I'm counting down the days until my BIG u/s too...which is ironically at 18 weeks (18w3d) as well-June 30th. However, we are finding out the sex...I didn't have a preference, but DH feels like it would bring him closer to the baby (although I'm not sure that is possible) while I'm still pregnant since he doesn't get to experience everything I do.

I'm just excited to have an u/s that doesn't just require the dildo cam ;-)

Congrats on your pregnancy! I wish you all the best...

Congrats! 6 weeks isn't very far away at all...it's hard to believe how quickly time has flown by. Oh and a doc who gained 60 pounds while pregnant, that's excellent. At least you know that you won't get tons of patronizing weight gain lectures.

Congratulations! I'm so glad to hear that everything went well.

Congrats! I love hearing the heartbeat, even now that I can feel regular movement (it's nice to be reminded that it isn't just my insides shifting). And ditto Jen's comment -- it'll be nice to avoid those generally-unnecessary weight gain lectures. (Do people *really* see pregnancy as a license to eat for two? In my experience, people gain/lose what they're gonna gain/lose.)

Great news - good heart beat and bonus of being down a pound! lol We didn't find out the sexes with the first two and didn't want to with #3 - but he has other plans. Apparently flashing was something he learned in-utero! Don't tell him but I preferred finding out in the delivery room! So happy for you! NCLM

Freaking awesome indeed. I remember the moment well, with both kids, and I had no trouble getting pregnant.

A big-time belated happy anniversary to you too! I still feel that way about Grant after 27 years.

Wow - how exciting! Not having children myself and being deaf - I am wondering what this sounds like? Is it a low sound, high, fast, slow...? Can you explain!?

Congratulations! There is nothing better than hearing your baby's heart beating. Someone bought me one of those fetal heart monitor things when I was pregnant. Huge waste of money! We never could tell if we ere hearing his heartbeat or not. The one at the docs office is awesome though. Congratulations!

Yaaay for little heartbeats! I know exactly the horrible sound you are talking about, I shifted my body a little while the doc was listening to the wee one's heartbeat's last time and it about deafened us. Yikes.
