Decided

We went to the fancy day care center this morning, and we are sold. We have done a lot of asking around, and although the perfect solution would be a 'live-out' nanny - the cost of that in my area is insanely expensive. And I understand that - the cost of living in our area is high - and you would expect someone to be able to make a living if they are working for you full time. But it just isn't something we can swing. The good news is we can afford this rather pricey but VERY nice and close to home day care (7 minutes from my house and 15 minutes from my office)- and Aaron was really impressed. At first I was nervous that I was looking into all of this too early - but now I know we have a spot for sure and that is all taken care of. I know of others who were still on waiting lists when they were ready to go back to work. That is stress I don't need!

Besides that I want an egg salad sandwich in the WORST way.

Yah congrats.

Woohoo! And I don't think it is every too early to look into daycare options. From what I hear, the good ones always fill up really quickly.

Wow. That's great you got it worked out so easily. I'm 5 months pregnant and I've made a million calls and have 3 interviews with providers set up, and it feels like a never-ending process. But maybe I'm over-thinking it.

If it were too early, the center would tell you. If they're taking your reservation, it's not too early.

Wow....I definitely need to start thinking about this. Like yourself, neither DH and I can afford to stay home and right now I'm weighing the pro's and con's of daycare vs. someone's home because I need to reserve a spot if we go the daycare route.

Oh, and I say go eat an egg sandwich! =)

That great! Get all of the things out of the way that you can now so you'll have time to do all of the other things later.

Hi! Here from NCLM.

That's great that you found a place now! Less stress later. There's one place in my town that I know you want to put an application in when you conceive! Crazy!

here from NCLM, you're so lucky that you have a spot. In July it'll be 2 years since I've been waiting for a spot at my uni's daycare. The monkey is in daycare and the advantage over the au pair is they are interacting with a group of kids. he loves it, and crys when we leave. Its amazing that at such young ages they make friends etc.

Gosh almighty, your comment made me feel soooo much better. Thanks a million. I read a few of your last posts and wanted to point you to this one in case you never follow TB. It was a post that really changed my attitude, and it sounds as though you are there too. http://tobaccobrunette.blogspot.com/2008/03/normal-girl.html. Congrats on getting some of the major planning done. I'll definitely keep following. Oh, and BTW, heartbeat and everything was good today: 170 BPM. Thanks again!

That's awesome! You have to sign up for the good daycare centers WAY in advance. Some of them have a year waiting list - no joking.

My kids went to a really good day care - one thing you still have to deal with is the sickness until they are almost 3 years old. The kids are sick all the time. GOOD NEWS is that once they hit real school they'll have had everything already and be healthy as horses (at least this is our experience.)

Visiting from NCLM...
Congrats on finding a good childcare option. It is great that you found one that fits your needs so early and can cross it off your list.

Glad you've made a decision you're comfortable with. I would find an au pair SO strange - having someone else living in our house.

Good for you! Good daycare around here gets filled up fast! The waiting lists are longer than a pregnancy for some of them! In any event, planning is a good thing.

When we had Em things were weird in that the adoption play group we were part of was divided in an acrimonious way between those who used child care and those who didn't. It was ugly at times and so pointless. I'm glad that now (over a decade later!!!I'm so old!) women seem to get that every family makes the choice that works best for that family.

Oh and got make yourself a sandwich-I like mine with tomato.

oh great news. it is a good idea to take care of the things you can - so kudos.

Hope you get that egg salad sandwich - ok now I want one (crap)

Yay for getting the day care situation settled! I know that a lot of the day care centers around where I live also have really long waiting lists - I had one tell me that moms needed to sign up as soon as they found out that they were pregnant! Crazy. So, sounds like you make the right choice!

Here from NCLM to say hooray for making the choices! I'm so glad that you found something that you both like.
