Random Things

Not much exciting happening here, but I do have a few random things:

- I'm ridiculously looking forward to the long weekend for July 4th. I'm making it one day longer by taking the 3rd off. We are planning on going to the cabin. I hope it's nice weather, so I can float around in the lake.
- July 7th is our big u/s. That is only 12 days away! If we wanted to - we could find out the gender. But we aren't. I could go either way on finding out - but Aaron has always maintained that he doesn't want to know... so that is fine with me. It took us 3 years to get to this point, what's another 20 week to wait? It's actually kind of fun to tell people we aren't finding out when they ask the gender - because most of the people I know DO find out.
- Speaking of gender - I really have NO opinion on what is growing in there. None. I have friends who knew from the day they found out there were pregnant that it was a girl.... and I just have no vibe.
- I've started poking around for things to buy for the baby (but I'll hold off on actually buying things until after my shower). I have a friend who is loaning me her crib, and another friend who is going to let me use her pump (along with various other things)... but I have heard more than a few strong recommendations for the Amby Baby Bed instead of a bassinet. Thoughts?

While I have no personal experience with the Amby bed, it seems rather short-term. We also did a bassinet for XBoy, another short-term item.

This time we bought a playard that doubles as the bassinet. Once Murdock is old enough, s/he will be moved to the crib and the bassinet part can be removed. We also bought a swing so while we now have two things that look like they can be covered by the Amby, babies have to get use to no movement at some point. Why rock them awake and asleep? I would think this would make a crib transition difficult. But, what the hell do I know??

Everything I've heard abotu the Amby baby is good, and there are quite a few used ones out there on the web. The best thing about it is taht if you have a baby with reflux (and taht seems to happen with a lot of them), they are sleeping in more of a reclined postion, rather than flat, so gravity is on their side.

For the longest time I was a staunch believer in not finding out the sex, but I switched basically because my husband and I both have issues to work through if it is a boy (mostly fears based on lots of boys with issues in my family, and his own stuff), so we're going to find out the sex so we can be fully ready to welcome this little being for whomever they are. However, that is just because of baggage on our parts. If we have another (I know, crazy talk), I'm going to root for not knowing the sex.

I also heard good things about the Amby Baby Bed, but we decided to do as the previous poster is doing and go with a Pack n Play with a bassinet.

Twelve days until the big u/s -- that's awesome! Most of our friends seem to find it fascinating that we aren't finding out the sex. The few negative reactions (mainly from older folks) have been people who don't get how we'll possibly decorate the room all pink or all blue if we don't know the sex. Um, that's kind of the point.

You are so much stronger than I am. I have no patience for waiting, and Jeramy is no help on that front either. And even if you had vibes, I wouldn't trust them anyhow. Mine at least were completely off!

I'd never heard of the Amby thing, but am intrigued. Even though I'm not due until October, I'm already worried about him sleeping on his back and puking and choking. Oy - many sleepless nights ahead for me, I'd say. But the Amby incline feature makes me think I won't be AS neurotic.

I had no feeling either way and used to get so ticked with all the people in my life who would tell me they knew what I was having. They had a 50-50 chance of getting it right so whatever. lol

We didn't get bassinettes, because they're not useful for long. But they do look snugglier than tiny babies in big cots :)

My SIL was absolutely convinced she was having a girl because "she just knew." It was a boy. So I don't go much for that intuition thing, but if you want to hold on to some more mystery for 20 weeks, why not?

What are these crib, bassinet things you speak of? We went with the family bed. It worked for us, it doesn't work for others.

Me too I never heard of the Amby Bed but sounds very cool. You are so strong as i would HAVE to find out gender- too impatient I guess. (You'd think that I'd have a little more patience after 10+ years TTC, oh well) Thinking of you my friend.

I don't even know what an Amby bed is. We did the bassinet/crib thing. It's true that you don't use a bassinet for long, but it's handy to have the newborn within reach at night. And we did find out the sex with both kids.

One thing I'd recommend is having a "baby container" in every room -- a bouncy seat, crib, bassinet, whatever, so that you always have a place to put the baby down quickly if you need to. I have several such containers I would be willing to part with. (Before they're mobile a towel on the floor will do, but that doesn't last long either.)
